Analogy Time
Kurt Warner is to Football, as Neal Kendall is to knowing about places to eat in St.
Louis.
Applebees
The main reason I like Applebees is that it's close to my
house. There's nothing that really sticks out to make Applebees a great place. It's
pretty much just your cookie cutter hometown bar and grill. They do serve the
"Brutus", which is a really big glass of beer. All you need is 3 Brutus's,
and you're home free.Chevy's
Chevy's is one of my favorite places to go. Their food is a little too fattening for me,
though. I love all you can eat Fajita's night on Wednesday and Thursday. I believe they
have the best nacho chips and salsa over all the other Mexican restaraunts in St. Louis.
Crazy Bowls
and Wraps
This is my buddy Joe's favorite place to go. He got me hooked on it last year. If
you're into healthy food, this is the place to go. The cool thing is, the food doesn't
take like it's low fat, which is a good thing.
Denny's
Why does anyone go here? The food is horrrrible. They must have the stupidest
workers. But hell, if you drive past Denny's at two in the morning, it's packed. Why
are people so stupid? Go to some other 24 hours place, like Steak 'n Shake or Ginghams.
Denny's Followup
Hey Neal...
What is the deal with you and Denny's? Just cuz some drunken concertgoer threw up a couple
tables away from you at a Denny's after a Van Halen Concert in '95, you hate Denny's, and
you call the people stupid, (by the way, I drank some tomato juice, and everything was
fine after that..uh...oops) Getting back to the point, if you have not had Denny's Eggs
Benedict you are sorely missing out on one of the true pleasures of life. Save up your
$6.49 plus tax and tip, and snarf the E's B at the D-E to the N-N-Y's. And ignore the late
night teenagers, Denny's rocks, you punk mark jabroni.

Dos Primos
If you took a El Maguey's, took down the sign and put up a
new one that says Dos Primo's, then you'd be set. Dos Primo's seems to be El
Maguey's alter ego. All the food is the same. I'm not saying that's a bad thing, but
it just seems strange. Maybe the Maguey brothers had a falling out a long time ago, and
the evil brother started Dos Primo's. I'm not sure.
El Maguey
I like El Maguey. They give ya good old fashioned Mexican food. Nothing
frilly. The service really sucks, but the price for the food makes up for it. Their
hamburger meat is really greasy, but that's just a small setback
First Wok Buffet
This is one of the bets Chinese Buffet's in St. Louis. If you're going to go there,
bring a change of clothes. The smell of the buffet sinks into your clothes, so when
you get back to work, you smell like onions and beef. That stinks.
Frailey's
Frailey's is a rather plain establishment in Kenrick Plaza. They're my substitute
for Front Row. Their buffalo chicken sandwich is delicious. Their service is actually
quite good too.
Ginghams
I'd have to say that though I'm not in St. Louis anymore, I do know the best place to eat
in St. Louis: Ginghams. You must go to the one in St. Charles though. The one in
South County is not as good. I mean their Chicken Cordon Bleu sandwish is to die
for! Not to mention how heavenly it is dipped in ranch dressing. And speaking of ranch
dressing, they have the best I've ever tasted, and that says a LOT. Oh yeah, and their
vegetable soup is so tasty, I'd bathe in it. I think Neal said he would once too, but
you'd have to check with him.

Golden Corral
St. Louis has Ryan's Steakhouse. St. Charles has Golden
Corral. I prefer the food at Golden Corral more than I do at Ryan's Steakhouse, but
overall, it's still pretty mediocre. As my pal Mike Starkweather says, it's just another
example of Bovine America.
Hooters
If you want crappy overpriced food, come to Hooters. Even
though the selling point is the hooters, it's still probably not worth it.
Hunan Vu's
Hunan Vu's used to be the big place to eat for my buddies and
me thoughout highschool and college. The food's not the best, the atmosphere's not the
best, so I don't understand what the big appeal is. Check out their homepage. I made
it for them a couple years ago.
King and I
This is a yummy Thai restaurant down on Grand. This is great place to take a big group of
people. The atmosphere is beautiful.
Mongolian BBQ
Deep is the heart of West County, lies Mongolian BBQ. Cool
concept here - You fill a bowl full of frozen meat and veggies. Then you pour
miscellaneous sauces on it. Finally, you give it to the Oriental dudes, and they cook it
up for you. Cool, eh? Only drawback is that you stink to high heaven after
leaving. They cook it right in front of you, so all the smoke and gunk gets on you.
Bummer. Still a fun place to eat though.
Ozzie's
This a nice bar and grill located in Westport Plaza. Of
couse it's named after Ozzie Smith, the greatest Shortstop of Alllll Time. The food's
pretty normal, but the happy hour deals are great. Beer is cheap, and there's always
free food out. My favorites are Thursday night - Free Fajitas and Friday Night -
Free Prime Rib. You can't go wrong with free food.
Pizza World
This is my favorite pizza place. They have a huge selection of gourmet pizza's.
Check out their Chicken Caesar Pizza. I could eat abou 10 larges ones.
Delissssh!
PJ's Tavern
This a is nice little bar and grill in downtown Kirkwood. It's usually really
crowded and noisy, so don't expect to have a meaningful conversation. My favorite meal
there is the french dip. They call it something like Beef and Brick. Instead
of french bread, they use texas toast, so when you dip it, you get a ton of au jus in your
bread. The potato soup is also delicious. They have a bunch of TV's, so since you
can't talk in the place and hear each other, you can always watch a ball game. Plus, they
have one of my favorite video games, Golden Tee '99, in the back.
Ryan's Steakhouse
Ryan's Steakhouse is my favorite place to eat. The steaks are comparable to Ponderosa.
However the thing that sets Ryan's apart would be the huge selection you get at the all
you can eat buffet. From fresh salad, to baked potatoes, to chicken wings the buffet is
surely where it's at. If still have room for desert, Ryan's also has a wonderful bakery w/
all sorts of pies, pastrys, and cookies. There isn't one bit of Ryan's that is
horrrrrrible.

Souper Salad
This is an excellent lunch place on Olive Rd. by the big Olive movie theatre. It's
just a big salad bar. They have sandwiches also, plus a Baked Potato bar, a soup
bar, a bread bar, and a desert section. My favorite part of the salad bar is the
cold salad section. Most of them are made with tons of mayo, so they have to be
super fatty. I feel guilty eating it. The best thing about the place is the
price. It's only like 4.50 for all you can eat. You can sit there all day and eat 15
plates of cold pasta, and it will still cost only 4.50!!!
Steak 'n Shake
Steak 'n Shake is hot and cold. Sometimes you great great service and food, and
sometimes it's the exact opposite. It's usually for the worse though. I like thier
taco salad and turkey melts.
St. Louis Bread
Company
These places are all over town. The food is pretty
decent, except for two things: 1. It's not cheap, and 2. Nothing fills you up.
I need to spend at least 12 bucks each time just to make my stomach a little full. If
you're starving, don't go here. If you're looking for a place with a nice atmosphere
and a good sandwich, come here.
Sukho Thai
When you think of going to a place for good Thai food, you
normally don't think about heading to a strip mall. Sukho Thai is located in
Mackenzie Point, which actually is a strip mall. It's pretty fancy inside (aka, no Hunan
Vu's), so make sure to wear a clean pair of pants. I love their Pad Thai (yes, I know it's
the simplest Thai dish, but still, it's great). The waiters are really nice too and always
make sure your glass of ice tea is full. I love that in a waiter!
Sweet
Tomatoes
This eatery is very similar to Souper Salad, except it's
about twice as big. The only problem with the place is that it's twice as much as
Souper Salad. I don't the additional items make it that much better than Souper
Salad. Just go here if Souper Salad is closed.
Thai Country Cafe
If you're hungry, go to Thai Country Cafe, which is located down in the loop. Their
dishes are huge, and cheap too (My two favorite qualities in food). I just can't stand
that it's in the loop. After driving all the way down there, finding a parking
space, and dodging weirdo's, I then realized it would have been much easier to go to Sukho
Thai.
Tomatillo
This place is similar to Crazy Bowls and Wraps, but their menus is about 1/4 the size.
Their burritos are great, but their tacos stink. The tacos would be much better if
they were hot, but they always serve them cold. If you eat one of their burrito's
for lunch, you won't need to eat dinner.
Vivola Express
If you want a nice sub sandwich, head on over to Vivola Express, which is off Page
and Lackland. It's really hard to find, but worth it. Even though a full sub is
almost nine bucks, the taste is worth it. Folksssss, this is no Subway.
Weber's Front Row
Just like Steak and Shake, it's hot and cold. The toasted ravioli usually comes out
half-burnt, but on the rare occasion it comes out right, it's not bad. The chicken wings
usually are good, except when they use the old hot sauce that tastes like tar and the
chicken that's a few days overdone. If you come in with several people, service is great.
If you come in by yourself or with only a friend, the service sucks. The waitress's only
want big tips and if you're with a small group and more money is to be made elsewhere, you
can have a seizure and they still wouldn't come over.

Whole Foods
Whole Foods is trying to follow the new trend of today -
Yuppie Grocery Store/Eatery. I see no point in going here. If you want groceries, go
to Schnucks. If you want to eat something, go to a restaurant. Everything, and I
mean everything, is overpriced. I once bought a 8.00 salad that was similar to a
salad at McDonalds. I think people go there to look smart and cool. I think we
all know the truth.
Zuzu's
Zuzu's is a nice Mexican restaurant located in downtown
Clayton. For some reason, the food here seems so pure. I can't really describe
what I mean by it. You know when you get Mexican, it tastes fattening and greasy.
This stuff is tastes really, well, uhm, not greasy and fattening. I know this is a
big statement, but I believe Zuzu's has the best salsa in St. Louis. Count on it!
Want to give me a restuarant review? Drop me an email!
Check out another Big Eater in the STL - Hugh
Chou. This guy seems to like the same stuff I do!
